DESCRIPTION: Older badges of the white waistcoat era are known in an interesting variety. Known as the 'Trade Specimens' they are identical to the issued badges, but have no mount or pin on the back at all. The backs are completely plain. Limited numbers of each badge were produced to show what the badges were like - presumably before being fully approved by Robertsons. Odd individual specimens may be found and a few complete sets survive. For sale in this auction we have the Trade Specimen Bagpiper. With light blue jacket, blue hands and red feet this design was made by Fattorini (although it is not stamped to reverse). Collectors should apply caution when purchasing any badge with no backstamp to ensure it is the real thing. This badge has been verified as geuine by the Golly Auction team.
CONDITION: This badge is in excellent condition. There is no evidence of any stress marks, the enamel is perfect and the metal is bright and clean. A mint example.
