DESCRIPTION: The farmer themed SLC Golly badge with
green wellies holding a
yellow gherkin. Also known as the 'Chudleigh Pond Banana Badge' although the exact reason why remains unclear.
Un-numbered to reverse it is recorded in the Golly Guide as SLC-X2-11b-3. This badge was only given to helpers on the day. Only 7 examples of this design were produced, making it a very rare badge indeed. See section W in the Golly Guide for further information.
BACKGROUND: This farmer themed badge was produced for the second 'extra-ordinary' SLC which took place on 29-Aug-2004 at the Brewers Arms, South Petherton, Somerset. Tickets were sold in advance entitling the holder to a ‘Green welly’ Golly badge, a Hog Roast bap, half-a pint of Festival cider or beer, entry into the raffle for the Sungolly plate, entry into the SLC Gherkin Eating Competition and a chance to win a ‘Golden Golly Farmer’ badge.
The Sunday Lunch Club is the name given to the official meeting of members of The Robertson’s Badge Club. This is an online club which started out as a Yahoo! Group: ‘GollyBC’ and has since moved over to Facebook. The first SLC took place at the end of 2001 to encourage Golly badge collectors to meet and swap badges or just chat in a relaxed setting. Official badges were produced for members each year and regular meetings were held up and down the country.
The badges produced by the group were not officially endorsed by Robertsons as the Golly had ceased to be used by Robertsons at this time. However, the full list of designs issued by the group are included in
section W of the Golly Guide. The 'Robertons Badge Club' facebook group remains the only Robertsons Badge collecting group devoted exclusively to Robertsons Golly collecting and endorsed by the Golly Checklist team.
